WMC - Memphis, Tennessee
A
rich broadcast history was born in December 1948 when WMC-TV became the
first television station in the states of Tennessee, Arkansas and
Mississippi. The commitment that was made in 1948 to serve Mid-South
continues today.
As the news leader in
Memphis and the Mid-South, Action News 5 is the #1 source for breaking
news. Chopper 5, with “power zoom” technology, flies high covering
breaking news live from the sky as the area’s most experienced team of
reporters cover the story live from the street.
WMC-TV’s excellence
has been recognized by broadcast professionals in the form of awards
from the National Association of Broadcasters, the National Association
of Black Journalists, and the Society of Professional Journalists. The
station has also won a number of Emmy®
awards for news and special event programming.
WMC-TV5 broadcasts
more than 30 hours of local news programming each week and is recognized
as the Mid-South’s News Leader.
WMC-TV is “First to
Care…First to Serve” and is proud of its distinguished record of
community service; providing support to a diverse roster of educational
and humanitarian projects including, the Stuff the Bus Campaign in
association with Memphis City and Shelby County Schools Systems, the
Memphis Interfaith Association (MIFA), Memphis City Schools
Telecommunications Center, the National Civil Rights Museum and the
Memphis Branch of NAACP.
WMC-TV5 is an
NBC affiliate serving 44 counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi
and Missouri.
