WOIO/WUAB - Cleveland, Ohio

WOIO is one of America's most talked about CBS affiliates, home to red hot CBS primetime shows and a red hot 11pm newscast. Ratings for CBS primetime shows like "CSI: " and "Survivor" are some of the strongest in the nation, and 19 Action News at 11 is one of the only late newscasts in the country to post three consecutive years of significant audience growth. Since it's launch in May of 2002, 19 Action News at 11 has supplanted a thirty-year late news leader near the top of the late news ratings in just three calendar years. The great late night news gains are also pushing other 19 Action Newscasts on WOIO: 19 Action News Morning and 19 Action News at Noon are all trending upward. And with the addition of the market's only newscast at 4pm to the already established 5pm and 6pm newscasts, Clevelanders have plenty of opportunities to watch a news operation clearly on the move.

Through its affiliation with CBS, WOIO is home to NCAA College Football, NCAA College Basketball including the “March Madness” Basketball Tournament, several premiere golf events including The Masters, and Tennis' U.S. Open.

WOIO’s Sign-On Date was May 19, 1985. In 1986, Malrite Communications Group gained majority ownership of the station, which it maintained until September 1998 when Raycom Media purchased the station.

Clevelanders have been watching WUAB-TV for over thirty years, when the station first signed on September 15, 1968. The station has become nationally known as the broadcast home of one of the hottest teams in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers. WUAB is an affiliate of the MYNetworkTV network. WUAB began broadcasting in the 720p format after their switch from UPN to My Network TV in September 2006. The newscast on WUAB is also 720p, even though the news on WOIO is 1080i. Up until October 1, 2007, The Tube Music Network was carried on DT-43.2. On that same day, the network ceased operations. On April 1, 2009, WUAB began airing This TV on DT-43.2. In a coincidental connection with WUAB's roots, This station's programming is from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer television and film library, which is today largely United Artists' preexisting library.

WUAB’s market size is 1.4 million households, which makes Cleveland the 18th largest television market in the United States.

Originally licensed to the city of Lorain, Ohio, WUAB was initially owned by United Artists (hence the “UAB”). WUAB has had three subsequent owners, including Gaylord Broadcasting (1977-1990) and Cannell Communications (1990-2000). Raycom Media operated WUAB under a local marketing agreement with Cannell from 1996 until March 02, 2000, when it purchased WUAB under the FCC's new Duopoly Rules.

Today, in addition to the MYNetworkTV affiliation, WUAB features Cleveland’s longest running Primetime Newscast, the 10 O’clock News. Additionally, the Newscast features a 15 minute Sports Extra, which is the market’s most comprehensive daily sports wrap-up.
