Raycom Media announces that Bill Poplin will be joining WSFA 12 News in Montgomery, Alabama as their next General Sales Manager. Poplin is currently the General Manager/General Sales Manager at Raycom Media’s WPGX in Panama City, Florida.

“Bill brings a proven record of multi-platform success to WSFA 12 News,” said Mark Bunting, General Manager of WSFA 12 News. “In just one year under Bill’s leadership as the General Manager/General Sales Manager at WPGX in Panama City, the station has improved to one of Raycom Media’s top performing stations.”

Collin R. Gaston, Regional Group Vice President for Raycom Media stated, “We are excited Bill is joining the team at WSFA News 12. I’m confident that under Bill’s direction, WSFA 12 News will continue its storied history of creating win-win cross platform partnerships with businesses and organizations throughout Central Alabama.”

Prior to joining Raycom Media, Poplin has held leadership positions with several leading broadcast and cable operations based in and around North and South Carolina. Poplin started his career as an account executive for WPDE and WWMB in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where his station launched one of the first UPN affiliates in the country. He then spent several years in national sales for KATZ TV and local sales management for WFXI/WYDO in Greenville, North Carolina. In 2006, Poplin was named General Manager/General Sales Manager for Suddenlink Media (now Altice) for a ten-year period where his group was one of the company leaders in digital product launch and training, along with various non-traditional sales initiatives that increased incremental revenue streams. His group attained either cash flow, revenue goals or both for nine of those ten years. Poplin also mentored over ten account executives to achieve the company’s prestigious President’s Club Award and received a national CAB award for small market digital sales achievement. In August of 2017, Poplin was named the General Manager/General Sales Manager for the Raycom Media station, WPGX, in Panama City, Florida.

“I’m very proud of what the team here at WPGX has accomplished over the last year. In this short time, we have enhanced the station both on-air and on our digital assets while adding a heavy investment in our people through increased training efforts,” said Poplin. “I have spent most of my career working with stations and media groups in DMA market sizes 50 and up, and I am familiar with the challenges and opportunities ahead. I look forward to working with the talented and capable employees already in place at WSFA 12 News.”

Bill and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents to three boys: Reid, Mac, and Hampton. All are outdoor enthusiasts, spending time on the water, fishing and boating. Poplin stated, “My family is excited about the move to Alabama and the opportunity to represent a legacy station like WSFA 12 News.”
