The tradition of television in Baton Rouge began on April 19, 1953, when WAFB signed on the air as the second television station in Louisiana. Since that day over 60 years ago, WAFB has become more than merely a single television station bringing viewers their daily news, weather, sports and entertainment headlines.
Today we are Baton Rouge’s most trusted source for information on every screen. On TV we broadcast more than 25 hours of local news every week on WAFB, and our local news replays 24/7 on Cox Cable Channel 9. We also provide programming for additional digital channels… Bounce TV 9.2, WBXH 9.4, Grit 39.2 and Escape 39.3.
WAFB is now very much WAFB.com. Our digital portfolio launched in the early 1990’s with the website WAFB.com and has since expanded into the WAFB News App, First Alert Weather App, Sportsline RedZone App, TigerZone App, Louisiana Weekend App and Stirrin It Up Recipe App. All combined, the WAFB suite of digital products is visited nearly 30 million times per month by South Louisiana and beyond.
Now WAFB have moved into the new frontier of digital video with our OTT channels. Currently WAFB is available on Roku, Amazon Fire, Playstation VUE, and YouTubeTV with more expected to be released.
Our community efforts have WAFB for decades. The list of station promotions to help local non-profit organizations is lengthy…They include OLOL Children’s Hospital, the St. Vincent de Paul Uniform for Kids Drive, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure–just to name a few.
The story of WAFB is an evolution of people and technology. Film to videotape. Black and white to color. Analog to digital. But one thing that hasn’t changed since 1953, is our commitment to be South Louisiana most trusted source for information.
