WDBD-TV in Jackson, MS has always been independent. We began broadcasting as an independent outlet on November 30, 1984 – we were so independent that we were the first station in Mississippi to not be affiliated with a national network. On July 6, 1987, WDBD would become the area’s first Fox affiliate and would later switch to The WB Network in 2001. In 2006, after the announcement of the UPN and WB merger, WDBD ultimately swapped affiliations with WUFX on July 3, 2006 to rejoin Fox and became known as Fox40.
Jackson Television owned WDBD and WUFX until early 2010 when they sold both stations to Roundtable Broadcasting. After a couple of years, Roundtable Broadcasting then sold WDBD to American Spirit Media in July of 2012 (and they still remain as owners). As part of that transaction, American Spirit Media entered into a shared services agreement with Raycom Media, owner of WLBT, in November of 2012 and that agreement is still in effect today.
